Trip Overview
A Tshechu is a Buddhist festival that honours the Buddhist saint- Guru Rinpoche, who brought Buddhism to Bhutan. The Thimphu Tsechu is one of the biggest festivals in the country and it is held for three days in Trashichhoedzong in the Tendrel Thang (the festival ground in front of Thimphu Tashichhodzong). The Trashichhoedzong, which means Fortress of the Glorious Religion was built in 1641 and houses His Majesty’s secretariat and the central monk body. This was also the place where the fifth king was coronated in 2008.
